Breakfasts in Samoa

We've been in Samoa for over 3 months now and it's about time I posted some of the things we've been eating. I thought I'd start first with breakfast, one of the three most important meals of the day

Every morning since we've been here I've eaten pretty much the same thing. I start with a bowl of oatmeal and craisins (or raisins) that I prepared in the microwave.

Then I sprinkle it liberally with cinnamon.

Next I add my favorite bananas of all time...the misi luki bananas. They are short and plump and swwweeet and flavorful. mmmmmm....

I quarter and slice the bananas on my oatmeal and cinnamon. I usually use two.

Then I pull my bag of Green Smoothie Girl's TriOmega Superfood (that I brought from home) out of the fridge. It's a combination of sprouted and dehydrated flax, broccoli and chia seeds. It just oozes with healthiness.

I sprinkle a heaping tablespoon on top of the bananas.

Then I blow all the healthiness by pulling a carton of full-cream milk out of the fridge. These are one-liter cartons of milk from Australia that can sit on your shelf until you open them. We buy these babies by the case at Ah Liki wholesalers.

I pour about a half cup of the milk over everything and then enjoy. I eat my oatmeal creation every morning with the tablespoon I measured the TriOmega Superfood with.

When we first arrived at our little home here in Samoa there was only one teaspoon and 5 tablespoons in the silverware drawer. People just eat big here in Samoa!  Anyway, Mark and I had several heated discussions about who got to eat with the teaspoon each morning. Finally I decided it wasn't worth it and let him claim ownership of the teaspoon and I started using a tablespoon.

Recently some friends felt sorry for us and gave us 4 teaspoons. I guess I've gone native, because I still eat my oatmeal with my trusty tablespoon!

  2. I must be part Samoan. I frequently eat with a tablespoon when we run out of spoons and I don't feel like running a partially filled dishwasher. Some might call that lazy, I prefer resourceful. Now, I'll just say I'm being Samoan. Oh, and that milk looks ahhhhmazing! Full cream? Yes, please!
